My Bio: 

Taimoor Hassan received his B.Eng. (Hons.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the N.W.F.P University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan and the M.Eng. degree in Computational Science & Engineering from National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST). He served as Mechanical Design Engineer from 2010 to 2013 at NUST, in the R&D project "Development of a tele-surgical training robot & simulator". Currently, he is a PhD student at the Bio-Robotics Institute of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Italy.

What I do in Smart-E: 

ESR12: Soft Robotics and morphological computation

Designing robots that can safely work together with humans, soft robotics, is an active and emerging research area. The aim of this project will be to design & develop an Omni-directional robotic manipulator, which can be used in industry for welding, sealant application, spray painting, inspection, material handling & assembly etc. Its high maneuverability will enable it to move  in tight & narrow spaces, its stiffness changing capability & soft construction will insure safe interaction with the environment ( human operator). The system will have the ability to work autonomously and can also be operated in a master-slave configuration.

Research interests: 

Soft robotics, mechanical/ mechanism design and CAD/ CAM.
