My Bio: 

Andrea Giusti is currently an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) at the Technische Universität München, his activity is focused on the control design of compliant and reconfigurable modular robots.

Andrea graduated with a B.Sc. in Telecommunications Engineering and with a M.Sc. in Mechatronic Engineering both from the University of Trento, Italy.

Andrea’s industrial experience include working as a Project Engineer for Whirlpool R&D (Cassinetta, Italy) with activities in the area of system modelling, identification and control. He developed his Master’s thesis within the mission LISA Pathfinder at EADS Astrium (Friedrichshafen, Germany).

ESR6: Control design of compliant and reconfigurable modular robots

Cooperation between humans and robots in a shared workspace introduces several advantages to overcome the limitations of classical industrial automation systems such as the poor flexibility.

Classical industrial robotic systems do not guarantee safety and have limited flexibility in a shared workspace between humans and robots. Promising systems to pursue both safety and flexibility are compliant and reconfigurable modular robots.

The flexible nature of the elements with passive compliance and the change of the mathematical model that describes the system dynamics after reassembling result in a source of degradation of the motion control performance. In order to face these challenges, nonlinear and model based control methods are developed. Special attention is paid to the automatic design of the controller and to the robustness against model uncertainties.

Research interests: 

Research interests include robotics, design of control systems, modelling and identification of mechatronic systems.
